About the Coatings Academy

The Coatings Academy is the Canadian Coatings Association’s (CCA) Online Educational Program providing “Practical Training for the CASE Industry”. Courses are designed to support individuals entering the industry or seeking to expand their knowledge base and advance in their careers.

An education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is foundational for entering the industry, whether your career path is in chemical coatings formulation, research and development, architectural and industrial coatings technology, supply chain management, or regulatory compliance, or if you are exploring opportunities in the CASE industry. If you fit into one of these groups, the Coatings Academy will have courses of interest for you.

CCA’s team of regulatory and chemical experts understand how policy and industry are intricately connected. CCA prides itself on delivering excellence in coatings education with practical and asynchronous learning that empowers participants from around the globe to succeed in the coatings industry. Indeed, the course has been under the auspices of CCA for 12 years, and in that time, participants have taken the course from around the world, across Canada and the United States, in Iran, Jamaica, South Africa, and others.

A Century of Practical Training for the CASE Industry

  • 1913Canadian Coatings Association was Founded

    The Canadian Coatings Association (CCA) was founded in 1913 and has since forged a legacy as one of Canada’s oldest trade associations advocating for the interests of the Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomer’s (CASE) Industry in Canada. With over a century of regulatory experience, this legacy has fostered trust with association members and respect from all levels of government.

  • 1919Toronto Society for Coatings Technology was Founded

    TOSCOT began in 1919, 6 years after the CPCA was founded. The original name of TOSCOT was the Toronto Club of Paint and Varnish Superintendents which evolved to be an important source of technical information for the coatings industry in Canada. TOSCOT was formed in the Greater Toronto Area as the coatings industry was concentrated within this geographic area at that time.

  • 1922FSTC was Founded in the US

    TOSCOT was also a founding society of the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology (FSCT) founded in 1922 in the United States, contributing significantly to its growth and success. The first international president of the FSCT was a Canadian, Gordon C. McEwan, who worked tirelessly during his term in 1926–27 to shape its direction. Today FSCT is now part of the World Coatings Council of which CCA is a founding member.

  • 2010Toronto Society for Coatings Technology was Disolved

    For a hundred years TOSCOT provided a source of educational courses, award-winning technical presentations, and many successful seminars. A merger between the CPCA and TOSCOT was the catalyst for the continuation of a well respected education program.

  • 2012Canadian Coatings Association Acquired TOSCOT

    The Coatings Academy was established in 2012 when the Toronto Society for Coating Technology (TOSCOT) was dissolved as a legal not for profit entity, and all assets were transferred to the Canadian Coatings Association (CPCA).

  • 2024Modernization of the Coatings Academy

    In 2024 CCA began the modernization of the Coatings Academy and updated all content and the educational offering as a whole to meet the needs of today’s coatings professionals.
