Organic Pigments is an intermediate-level module designed to deepen learners’ understanding of the vibrant color-producing pigments widely used in modern paint and coating formulations. Building on previous modules covering pigment fundamentals, white and extender pigments, resins, solvents, and additives, this course focuses on the chemistry, classification, properties, and practical applications of organic pigments across architectural, industrial, automotive, and specialty coatings.

Learners will explore how organic pigments differ from inorganic pigments in terms of chemical structure, color strength, transparency, particle size, and weathering performance. The module examines the major families of organic pigments—including azo pigments, phthalocyanines, quinacridones, diketopyrrolopyrroles (DPP), perylenes, perinones, isoindolinones, and high-performance pigments (HPPs)—highlighting their unique characteristics, advantages, limitations, and end-use applications.

Delivered asynchronously, this module is designed for approximately 35–45 minutes of self-paced learning. Supporting pigment family comparison tables, molecular structure illustrations, color space diagrams, and application examples reinforce technical understanding while connecting pigment chemistry to real-world formulation decisions. A final knowledge assessment ensures learners can identify major organic pigment families, explain their performance characteristics, and select appropriate pigments based on color, durability, and application requirements.

Upon completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement, recognizing their understanding of organic pigment technologies as essential components for achieving color performance, durability, and formulation optimization within the Coatings Academy program.
